Prof. Zhaoli GAO

Principal Investigator

Dr. Gao completed his B.Eng. and Ph.D. both in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Since 2014, he has been a Post-doctoral Researcher in the Nano/Bio Interface Center and Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pennsylvania. In Oct 2019, Dr. Gao joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong as an Assistant Professor, and established the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory (MDL).

Dr. Kandy YEUNG

Postdoc

Dr. Yeung (B.S. in MSE, U. of Wash. and PhD in ME, HKUST) has over 10 years of R&D experience in carbon materials, electrochemistry and biosensors. She is a postdoc at the Biomedical Engineering at the CUHK since Jan 2020. Prior to joining CUHK, she was the Co-Founder and CTO of a Hong Kong startup company called Oxpecker Labs from Sept 2016 to May 2019. At Oxpecker Labs, she developed a multi-sensing module with a sweat sensor for sports and healthcare applications. The technology received 8+ awards, including Life Science Prize by Merck at Seedstars World Summit 2019, Hong Kong Champion at Seedstars Hong Kong 2018, Runway to RISE 2018, MTR x Techstars PropUP, etc. The technology was also featured on media such as MingPao, South China Morning Post, and Hong Kong Economic Times, etc.

Dr. Songshan ZENG

Postdoc

Dr. Songshan Zeng is currently a postdoc at the Biomedical Engineering at the CUHK since March 2021. Before joining CUHK, he was a postdoc at University of Connecticut from September 2018 to September 2020. And he earned his Ph.D. degree at University of Connecticut in August 2018. He had published 30+ research journal papers with total citations more than 1100, including publishing at prestigious journals like Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, Materials Today, Advanced Functional Materials, and Materials Horizons as first author. He had applied 7 US/world patents. He’s also the winner of the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad in the year of 2018. He’s research mainly focus on developing soft smart materials for multifunctional applications.

Miss Iris Ting HUANG

Ph.D Student

Iris got her bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering at the Chongqing University in 2019. She completed her master’s degree at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, majored in Biomedical Engineering. Her research is focused on biosensors and molecular detection.

Mr. Honglin SUN

Ph.D Student

Honglin graduated from the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Lanzhou University in 2020 with a major in Chemistry. At the same time, he also obtained an honorary degree from the Cuiying Honors College.

Mr. Md Masruck ALAM

MPhil Student

Masruck obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering department of University of Rajshahi in 2020. In 2019, he worked as a UGC research fellow in Metallurgical Research Laboratory at University of Rajshahi. His present research focused on two-dimensional (2D) materials based biosensor and molecular detection.

Miss Thi Trang TRAN

Undergraduate Student

Trang is currently a Year 2 undergraduate student in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the CUHK. Her research interest is on graphene fabrication and graphene-based biosensors.
